My week feeding wolves

This week has not been my finest.

It's been one of those weeks where, if you're not careful, you can wind up feeling les miserables, walking around muttering to yourself about your misfortune, furrowing your brow, and if musically inclined, making up sad songs wailing about your woes*. In the interests of self pity**, here I shall list my Top 3 Les Miserables items for the week.

1. Sick Mini.
Mini has a nasty infection that has left him very sore, housebound and far from his jolly self. Sick babies are torture. They are in pain, you can't help, they don't sleep. Enough said.

2. No pay no job.
Despite careful planning and SO much paperwork, my work managed to stuff up my maternity leave  such that I was informed today I probably won't be paid for a month. As an added bonus I've also been informed that I technically don't have a job anymore and a future job is, well, not guaranteed. To be fair, I  did have an inkling there would be no job when I came back, but when you're staring down the barrel, and its because of 'the system', it smarts a little more.

3. Fat pants anyone?
I decided finally, that its time to fit back into pre-baby clothes. I have begun my new regime, complete with 'before' photo. But the cold harsh truth of the scales was more cruel that I expected. That's what you get for no full length mirrors in the house and eating cookies like there's no tomorrow. Damn you delicious chocolate chips.

So, I found myself a little tearful and rather ungrateful for my life when I stopped and remembered my promise to myself this year. Notice the little things, enjoy the journey, circumstance does not last forever.

I remembered some cheesy, but wise words. A grandfather was telling his grandson that inside each of us is two wolves;  a Bad Wolf, who is anger, jealousy, greed, inferiority, negativity and strife and a Good Wolf, who is love, peace, hope, kindness, empathy and truth. The little boy asked, "So which wolf wins Grandpa?" to which he answered, "Whichever one you feed."

So in the interests of feeding the Good Wolf here's my Top 3 revised.

1. Snuggly Mini
Usually adventurous and keen to getting amongst life, I get a few seconds of cuddles before he's off to discover. Right now, Mini is content to sit on my lap or lie next to me and just be. It's bliss.

2. No job no limits
Having nowhere to go back to means I can explore totally new options. Find something more exciting, something I've always wanted to do...like get paid to stare at Pintrest and drink wine, or think of a great business idea I can do from home, keep writing this blog, learn to garden and hang out with Mini.

3. Fat pants shmat pants
Unfortunately for this one, the pants are tight either way you look at it.

Oh plus, there's always this, guaranteed to make you smile. Mini's new laugh. The Man and I watch this while he's asleep and chuckle.

* Coincidentally, I've seen a lot in the media about Les Miserables, the film this week.

  1. Oh the beauty of life is all in the details... the little things...

You have the right idea my lovely, be grateful for every moment even the wee small hours with a sad baby... I love your writing, you have such a way with words a real gift...

You realise that everything happens for a reason and that the right thing will come up work wise maybe you will get to use this wonderful gift...

Eli and Moses are drawing faces and Moses with his little lisp said to me "I love you to the kitchen and back Mummy"...

Eli and Mo are having a serious conversation, there is peace in our home and all is right with the world for this moment....

I have lots to do but- boring the work can wait... the little ones cannot xx
